Self Soothing and Coping

Coping Cards

 

Many people have behaviors they want to change.  Some people find that it is easier to change these behaviors when they substitute new positive behaviors for their negative behaviors. Use these cards to remind you of specific things you can do to break negative habits. Make copies of these cards and make sure you have them with you at all times.

Progressive Muscle Relaxation

 

Progressive muscle relaxation is a technique that involves tensing specific muscle groups and then relaxing them.  It is termed “progressive” because you relax all major muscle groups - starting at the head and working your way down to your feet - relaxing them one at a time. 


Grounding Techniques


Grounding techniques are  a set of tools used to assist individuals to stay in the present moment during episodes of intense anxiety or other  over-whelming emotions. Staying in the present moment allows people to feel safe and in control  by focusing on the physical world and how they experience it.
